A good set of barn lights is essential for both practicality and the security of your property. But with so many different options on the market, the choice can be confusing. The good news is, we’re here to help!
We’re going to take a look at the nine best barn lights out there right now. And we’ll tell you everything you need to know about their pros and cons before you buy.
So if you’re ready, step this way to find your new barn lights!
With this option from DEWENWILS, you’ll get not one barn light but two. The matching pair are designed to be hardwired in, and can be used indoors or out.
You’ll get all the accessories for mounting included in the package. There’s a mounting bracket, two screws for the outlet box, and three wire connectors.
The exterior of the lamps is finished in an attractive bronze. Inside the metal is coated in white to reflect the light. The metal shades have a diameter of 10.8 inches. The mounting panel has a diameter of 5.1 inches.
The lamps are fitted with E26 sockets, which gives you a choice of a range of different bulbs. They’ll work with LED, incandescent, halogen and CFL bulbs. Just choose the A19 style with a maximum of 60 watts.
While these lights are recommended for outdoor use, there’s no weatherproofing between the light and the wall. If you’re going to be using them outside, a more sheltered position will be best.
That will also help them maintain their looks. We’ve heard of some issues with the bronze color fading over time when placed in strong sunlight.
Come as a matching pair
Includes all the necessary fixings for wall mounting
White interior to reflect the light
No weatherproofing at the join between the light and the wall
The bronze finish may fade over time, especially in strong sunlight.
This light from Juyace is a great option to improve security on your property. It contains a sensor so it switches on automatically at dusk, and turns itself off again at sunrise.
It’s made of diecast aluminum, so it’s tough yet lightweight. It will resist shock and the elements, even in locations that get a lot of rain. And it comes with a five-year unlimited warranty for peace of mind.
The design is simple and utilitarian. A large circular LED light sits at the end of an arm that extends away from your wall. The mounting pole measures 22.8 inches.
You may find you need to add shims to prevent lateral movement when it’s in place. If you prefer, you can mount the lamp directly on the wall.
The light here is very bright. The energy-efficient 120-watt LED produces an astonishing 18,000 lumens. That’s the same as you’d get from a 500-watt halogen bulb.
This is best positioned between 26 and 50 feet above the ground. That will give you light in a diameter of between 90 and 170 feet. So while it’s a great choice for a larger property, this light won’t be suitable if you have near neighbors.

Sensor switches the light on and off automatically at dusk and dawn

You may find you need to add shims to get it to sit firm
The classically styled Redondo from the Steel Lighting Co. would look good in any location. You can choose between a 16-inch or 23-inch gooseneck, an upslope gooseneck, or a 20-inch straight mounting arm.
The lamp is made of alloy steel with a powder coated finish that means it can be used indoors or outside. The shade has a diameter of 20 inches, so it’s a real feature. And it comes in a choice of eight different colors, including matte and gloss black, galvanized, red and green.
You can choose it with or without sensors. With them, your lamp will switch itself on automatically when the sun goes down. When the light increases at dawn, it will switch itself off again.
If you choose a gooseneck lamp, watch out for the join between the neck and the cover nut. You may find there’s a small gap which can let in water. Add a bead of silicone to prevent any problems when it rains.
Make sure you check your package on delivery too. We’ve heard of one case where the lamp arrived scratched.
Suitable for indoor or outdoor use
Choice of colors and mounting pole designs
Available with sensors for automatic dusk to dawn operation, if required
Watch out for gaps between the neck and cover nut that can let in water

The model #61 from Brightess offers a pair of domed lamps in a smart black finish.
They have an E26 light fitting and will work with CFL, LED or incandescent bulbs. The gooseneck mounting arm extends 9 inches from the wall. The diameter of each lamp is 10.2 inches.
The exterior is available in a choice of black, gold or gray. The interior is painted white, enhancing the light. Like most of the models on our list, this needs to be hardwired in – there’s no integrated switch. All the necessary components for mounting it are included in the package.
One major limitation with these lamps is that they’re not designed for outdoor use. They’ll be fine for use in a covered location, like a porch. But if you want light in an area that’s exposed to the elements, this won’t be the right choice.
And note that this is another case where you may find the lamps lean slightly away from the wall. This can be fixed with shims, but takes extra work.
Choice of three different colors
Will work with CFL, LED or incandescent light bulbs
All the fittings to mount the lamps are included in the pack
Not suitable for use in exposed outdoor locations
They have a tendency to lean slightly away from the wall.
This traditionally styled lamp from Bestshared comes in a pack of four. It’s the perfect choice if you want matching pairs of lamps to frame a front and back door.
The elegant design extends 13 inches from the wall. The shade is 11.4 inches in diameter, and the maximum height is 13.5 inches.
The matte black finish gives the appearance of cast iron, and there’s a contrasting copper interior. It’s another wall-mounted design, with all the necessary fixings included as standard.
Each lamp has an E26 socket. It can be used with an LED, CFL or incandescent light bulb, with a maximum power of 100 watts. And they can be used outdoors as well as in.
These are more expensive than some designs on our list, but they’re also great quality. Just note that the mounting screws are a little short. That can give rise to the familiar problem of some lateral movement against the wall.

If you’re looking for a heavy duty, durable barn light, this one from TORCHSTAR should make your shortlist.
The design here is practical, rather than beautiful. There’s a round, bright LED light with a simple glass cover and a dark gray aluminum mount.
The 40-watt LED offers as much light as a 400-watt halogen light bulb, making it easy on your energy bills. Sensors switch it on automatically from dusk until dawn. And cooling fins prevent it overheating to extend its life.
It comes with a 5-year warranty. And it’s completely waterproof, so safe to use even in exposed outdoor areas.
One thing to watch out for is that the flex it comes with is very short. And the lag bolts supplied to mount the lights are only partially threaded. Replace them for fully threaded versions to save yourself a headache during installation.
Energy efficient LED bulb
Sensor for automatic operation from dusk to dawn
Completely waterproof and comes with a 5-year warranty
The flex attached to the unit is very short
The lag bolts aren’t fully threaded, which makes installation trickier than it should be.
This barn light is similar to the TORCHSTAR design. It has the same simple circular light with a metal mount. This one, though, is even brighter. The three CREE LEDs emit 15,000 lumens of white light.
It has the IP65 rating for being completely waterproof, so there’s no problem about leaving it out in the rain. And the die-cast aluminum mount won’t rust if it gets wet.
The LEDs are designed to work for around 5 years of average use. The lamp can be fixed directly to the wall, or you can use it with a mounting pole if you prefer. (You’ll need to buy one of those separately, though.)
Mount it 30 feet above the ground, and it will give you a light diameter of 82 feet. That makes it another option best suited for use on large properties, where any neighbors are at a distance.
And this is another case where the lag bolts supplied for installation aren’t the best. There’s not a lot of room to play with when wiring it up either. Be prepared for the process to take a little time.
15,000 lumens of light
Long-lasting LEDs are designed to work for around 5 years
This lamp from CINOTON again uses the simple design of a round lamp in an aluminum mount. But it’s a good choice if you’re looking for less intense light than the models from TORCHSTAR and SZGMJIA. In this case, you’ll get 4,950 lumens from the LEDs.
The manufacturers say you should get about 50,000 hours of performance. In practice, however, the longevity seems to vary by unit.
1.64-inch lag screws are supplied for mounting the light to a wall or pole.
If you prefer, you can buy a 2-inch diameter elbow mounting pole and attach it to that. But note that the promised bracket for doing so isn’t included with every unit. If yours is missing, contact customer services. We’ve heard positive reports about how responsive they are.
This light has the IP65 waterproof rating, so it will work in all weathers. And a sensor will turn it on automatically at sunset and off again when the sun rises.
Good choice if you’re looking for a less intense light to cover a smaller area
IP65 rated, so you know it’s completely waterproof
Sensor for automatic switch-on when it gets dark
Some units last less well than others
We’ve heard of cases where the bracket for attaching the light to a mounting pole has been missing.
